Edmond Couchot is emeritus professor and one of the founders of the Image Art and Technology department at Paris 8 University, which he ran until 2000.

As a theorist, he has published many articles and five books on the relationships between art and technology. Originally an artist, in 1975 he created interactive cybernetic systems that reacted to sound and invited the viewer to participate.
